Dr. Choy attended medical school at Weill Medical College of Cornell University. She was named the Louis and Rachel Rudin Scholar to conduct research as a medical student at the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center.  She received the Richard N. Kohl Prize for Excellence in Psychiatry upon graduation.

Dr. Choy received a full scholarship as a Philip Evans Scholar to complete her Bachelor of Arts degree at Swarthmore College. She graduated with distinction, and was inducted into two honors societies, the Phi Beta Kappa and Sigma Xi Scientific Research Society. She was also the recipient of several distinguished awards upon graduation, including the Lucretia Mott Fellowship in Medicine and the Murry Bergtraum Medical Scholarship. 

Psychiatry training: Dr. Choy completed a general adult psychiatry residency at New York University Medical Center and Bellevue Hospital, New York. She was appointed the chief resident in the residency program.

Dr. Choy has additional training in the evaluation and treatment of mood and anxiety disorders. Following her residency training, Dr. Choy went on to conduct clinical research in anxiety disorders in the department of psychiatry at Columbia University in New York, where she completed a post-doctoral research fellowship in mood and anxiety disorders.
