Mental Health and Counseling- Session Limits |
| To make an Appointment call - (949) 824-1835 |
Due to ongoing resource constraints and continuing demand for services, the Mental Health Clinic will move to an intermediary care model for health delivery. We anticipate an ability to provide continued care for our patients with some session limits so that those waiting to access care can be offered treatment. Although we would prefer to treat students to completion during their course of study at the University, the current resource climate does not permit this for all of our patients. Our experience is that the vast majority of our patients in past years have been treated to completion within four (4) years in fifty (50) visits.
Beginning Academic Year 2009-10, each student will be eligible for (but not necessarily entitled to) a maximum of sixty (60) appointments at the Mental Health Clinic, Student Health Center per type of degree offered by the University of California, Irvine. For example,
- a student working toward a single and second bachelor’s degree / baccalaureate at UCI is eligible for up to sixty (60) appointments in the Mental Health Clinic for the duration of baccalaureate studies;
- a student who has completed a bachelor / baccalaureate degree and is working toward a master’s degree is eligible for up to sixty (60) appointments in the Mental Health Clinic for the duration of their course of study;
- a student who is working toward a Doctorate of Philosophy (Ph.D.) is eligible for up to sixty (60) appointments in the Mental Health Clinic;
- Professional Degree (e.g. J.D. and M.D.) students are eligible for up to sixty (60) appointments in the Mental Health Clinic.
These Mental Health Clinic appointments can be split between disciplines of professional service (e.g. psychiatry visits, psychology visits, psychotherapy visits). Students who require more than sixty (60) appointments for their health care needs will be referred to other health agencies for continued care, as per their insurance benefits / resources. The capitation of visits only applies to the Mental Health Clinic at the Student Health Center and does not apply to community providers who may choose to accept insurance. Eligibility for services, as determine by enrollment, payment of registration fees, and good standing in the University still apply.
